Harsh Realities of Cancer Treatment

One of the most expensive treatments for a human disease is considered to be cancer treatment. A decade back this disease was almost considered as incurable. Though not 100% of people get cured of the disease after treatment but still modern technology has given us good odds against the disease and is fortunately considered as fightable now. There is no doubt that cancer has resulted because of our deteriorating environment by pollution to the extent that these kinds of diseases have surfaced. Cancer is basically an inner growth of cells which is of uncontrollable magnitude forming tumors. Though not all the tumors are cause of cancers but in majority cases they are. These tumors spread to the neighboring body organs and result in
greater damage. Catching a cancerous tumor at early stage gives us a fighting chance of getting rid of the diseases. There are more than 200 types of known cancers that effect human body. The cause of cancer has not been yet fully understood. Apart from pollution other factors considered to cause cancer are:

  • Smoking Tobacco
  • Few types of Infections
  • Diet of a Person
  • Too much fats and no physical exertion
  • Gene factor

Only 5% of the cancer causes have been associated with the gene factor, while other can be prevented by having healthy and balanced diet and less use of red meat. Smoking is a major cause of lungs cancer and nearly all of the lung cancers are direct result of use of tobacco by any mean. Detecting and identifying cancer is managed by means of:

  • Observation of Signs and Symptoms
  • Diagnostic Imaging
  • Screen Tests

Once a tumor is detected, to confirm the presence of cancer, biopsy is conducted of the tissues of the tumor and observed under microscope. The known treatments for cancer are:

  • Radiation Therapy
  • Chemo Therapy
  • Surgery

The cancer treatment, starting from its diagnosis, is quite expensive. Cancer does not see a pocket when it attacks. Many of the causalities of cancer are only because of the fact that a person cannot afford the diagnosing cost of tests, let alone the treatment cost. Unfortunately, since continuous research work is done on this disease, the cost of the medicines used during treatment and the therapies conducted to eliminate cancer are more expensive and time asking. A cancer patient has to undergo several chemotherapy sessions during treatment and needs continuous use of supplements for energy. A lot of energy is lost during these therapies since apart from cancerous cells many other cells vital for us die as well. The time factor and continuous treatment cost is heavy for almost everybody.

Many NGOs and Charity Organizations have taken up the cause and have been actively involved in free treatment of the cancer patients. Though not all of the patients around the world have managed to take advantage of them, still it is a ray of hope for many. Extensive online fundraising has been done on world wide scale to support hospitals that have equipment and means to give treatment for cancer.

I will conclude this article by a thought that let us not forget humanity for a fact that we are humans. If we won’t stand for each other, no one can and would.
